Fredericksburg, TX, is a hidden gem in the Texas Hill Country, known for its rich German heritage, picturesque vineyards, and vibrant local culture. But what makes it even better? It’s a fantastic destination for dog lovers! If you’re planning a visit with your furry friend, here’s a guide to some of the best dog-friendly places in Fredericksburg where both you and your pup can enjoy the town’s charm. I recently did a weekend getaway there and wanted to share some personal favorites we discovered, as well as some places I’m adding to my list for next time!
Wineries
Fredericksburg is famous for its wineries, and many of them welcome dogs with open arms. Most wineries allow dogs in their outside areas, where your dog can join you as you sip on some of Texas’ finest wines. If it’s summer, though, it can get a bit toasty. I took my visit in August and we prioritized finding dog-friendly wineries that you could take your dog inside with you and cool off in the AC together. We found two that I want to share with you!
Wildseed Farms
Wildseed Farms is more than just a garden; it’s a 200-acre floral wonderland that captivates visitors with its breathtaking fields of wildflowers. Located just a short drive from downtown Fredericksburg, this family-owned farm is the largest working wildflower farm in the United States. Stroll through vibrant fields of bluebonnets, poppies, and sunflowers, explore beautifully curated gardens, or relax on the shaded patios with a glass of local wine. Wildseed Farms is also home to a unique gift shop, nursery, and Brewbonnet Biergarten, making it the perfect destination for nature lovers, gardeners, and those seeking a serene escape in the Texas Hill Country. Whether you’re visiting during peak blooming season or exploring the trails year-round, Wildseed Farms offers a picturesque retreat that celebrates the beauty of nature. Dogs are welcome in all the buildings with their humans, including the gift shop and tasting room!
Wedding Oak Winery
Wedding Oak Winery brings the rich wine-making heritage of Texas to life and is dedicated to crafting 100% Texas-grown wines that honor the unique terroir and favorable wine-growing conditions. Located on 290, Wedding Oak Winery provides an unforgettable experience for both wine enthusiasts and casual sippers alike. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and discover the true essence of Texas wine on the spacious terrace at the Fredericksburg Tasting Room. Dogs are welcome inside at all their locations, provided they are accompanied by their parents and do not disrupt the experience for other guests.
