Dogs and hockey – two things that might not seem like they go together, but when combined, create an unforgettable experience. Imagine being surrounded by the excitement of a hockey game while also enjoying the company of your furry best friend. That’s exactly what the Pucks ‘n Paws game with the Texas Stars offers – a unique opportunity for hockey fans to bring their canine companions along for an evening of fun on the ice. This year, the Pucks ‘n Paws game was held on Sunday, April 5th, at 5:00 pm against the Milwaukee Admirals.
The Texas Stars, based in Cedar Park, Texas, are known for their dedication to their fans, both human and canine. The Pucks ‘n Paws game is an annual event that invites fans to bring their dogs to the stadium to enjoy a night of hockey together. As a proud dog owner and significant other to a hockey enthusiast, I recently had the pleasure of attending this one-of-a-kind event. I was excited to wear some Sioux Falls Fighting Wiener Dogs merch that I recently picked up. For the 17th year in a row, the Sioux Falls Stampede rebranded as the Fighting Wiener Dogs and featured Wiener Dog Races! I had to take advantage of this dachshund and hockey combination.
I entered the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park with Kai, my Dachshund, and my boyfriend’s Bull Terrier, Monster, I was greeted by a buzz of excitement in the air. Dog owners and their pups filled the arena, eagerly anticipating the game ahead. It was a sight to behold—dogs of all shapes and sizes, decked out in their finest Stars gear, mingling with fellow fans and soaking in the pre-game atmosphere.
One of the things that struck me most about the Pucks ‘n Paws game was the sense of community it fostered. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that everyone was united by their love for both hockey and dogs. Throughout the game, there were plenty of special moments that made the experience even more memorable. From the “Lion King Cam” capturing adorable footage of dogs being held up in the stands to the Dog Parade during intermission, there was never a dull moment.
Of course, no trip to the Pucks ‘n Paws game would be complete without indulging in some delicious treats for both me and my furry friend. The concession stands offered a variety of snacks and beverages for humans, while special dog-friendly treats were available for our canine companions, ensuring that everyone was well-fed and satisfied. Adding to the excitement, the Texas Stars officially clinched their spot in the Calder Cup Playoffs minutes before the puck dropped Sunday and finished the night by defeating the Milwaukee Admirals 3-1.
Beyond the fun and excitement, the Pucks ‘n Paws game also serves a greater purpose—raising awareness and support for animal welfare organizations. Throughout the event, there were opportunities to learn more about local shelters and rescue groups and ways to get involved and make a difference in the lives of animals in need.
The Pucks ‘n Paws game with the Texas Stars is a must-attend event for any dog lover or hockey enthusiast. From the electrifying atmosphere to the heartwarming moments shared with furry friends, it’s an experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Texas Stars or simply looking for a fun outing to enjoy with your dog, this annual event is guaranteed to deliver a howling good time.
