In honor of Pet First Aid Awareness Month, I thought I’d share a simple first aid kit for your pet that you should have in your home. You can put one together yourself or get a repacked one like this, this, or this. Keep it somewhere you’ll remember and have quick access to, but is out of reach for both pets and kids.

Your Kit Should Contain

  • Gauze pads
  • Adhesive tape
  • Cotton balls
  • Cotton swabs
  • Fresh 3% hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting (always check with veterinarian or animal poison control expert before giving to your pet)
  • Ice pack
  • Disposable gloves
  • Scissors with blunt end
  • Tweezers
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Oral syringe or turkey baster
  • Alcohol wipes
  • Saline eye solution
  • Artificial tear gel
  • Phone number, clinic name, address of your veterinarian

Make sure to check your kit a few times a year to make sure nothing has expired or needs to be replaced. Hopefully it’s one of those things you never have to actually use, but it’s still a good idea to have on hand just in case.
